SEOUL, Korea (Dec. 8, 2022) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that the company’s automotive displays are certified as eco-friendly.

LG Display’s automotive P-OLED and Premium LTPS (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) LCD displays have received the Eco-Product Certification Mark from SGS, a Swiss-based global leader in inspection, verification, testing and certification, for the first time in the industry. The certification mark is given to products that adhere to global environmental regulations and minimize hazardous substances all the way from production to disposal.

The company’s certified automotive displays were recognized for their excellence in the following inspection categories: ‘Energy saving’ and ‘Hazardous substances’. In addition, both the P-OLED and Premium LTPS LCD displays complied with the EU’s ‘Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)’ standards.

LG Display’s automotive P-OLED uses a flexible polymer instead of regular glass substrate which provides a light weight and design flexibility all the while maintaining excellent picture quality. The company improved the P-OLED’s luminous efficiency to reduce power consumption by 39 percent compared to existing displays, generating the potential to increase the driving distance range in electric vehicles. Already recognized for its convenience in terms of design and form factor, this latest achievement further solidifies P-OLED’s industry leadership and highlights the important role it will play in the new era of electric vehicles.

Meanwhile, the company’s eco-friendly certified Premium LTPS LCD improves its liquid crystal transmittance rate from the development stage, reducing the display’s thickness and power consumption by 7.5 percent and 17 percent, respectively, compared to existing displays. The display also uses fewer backlight components, boosting its resource efficiency.

“Our automotive display technologies are being acknowledged by the industry for not only their cutting-edge innovation but also their eco-friendliness,” said Pyung-hun Kim, Head of Auto Product Development Division 2 at LG Display. “Through differentiated technologies such as P-OLED and LTPS LCD, we plan to further strengthen our unrivaled position in the automotive display market.”
