LG Chem has been selected as the battery supplier for an Energy Storage System (ESS) project commissioned by Energiequelle GmbH, Germany’s major renewable energy company. Under the contract, LG Chem will supply batteries for the country’s largest ESS at 10.8MWh, a capacity to supply the entire 2,000 households in the region for a day. LG Chem will supply lithium-ion batteries to the ESS, which is under construction in Feldheim, Brandenburg, by the end of the year and plans to compete installation within the first half of 2015. The ESS will store intermittent power generated by natural energy sources, such as wind, solar, and biomass, store the power on the batteries, and stabilize the power and return it to the grid.
